During the pandemic, women across the world have been called to step up in new ways to support communities, families, and businesses. In the health care sector alone, women globally make up 70 percent of workers. We know all ladies deserve not only a huge round of applause but also more of a focused effort to listen and provide support. This year’s International Women’s Day theme of “Choose to Challenge” aims to do just that! Locally, the Kalamazoo State Theatre kicked off the celebration with a live-streamed performance by Claudia Acuña over the weekend with another event scheduled for April 2. Inforum, the state-wide organization focused on accelerating careers for women has taken its celebration virtual with a keynote presentation from Dr. Shirley Davis with breakout sessions all day long. Sharing stories from across the globe, WKZO honored the holiday with a feature highlighting voices of women around the world and their current challenges as well as their hopes for the future. As this day comes and goes, just like our other celebrations, it’s important to keep honoring women and diverse voices by working all year long to offer them a seat at the table.
