At Game Time, Camzies Delivers

Both Ken and Cassie Paul’s first jobs involved pizza, but years later they never imagined they would run their own mobile pizza company. “It’s ironic because both Cassie and I worked in pizza,” said Ken. “Her first job was working in a pizzeria convenience store, and my first job was working in a restaurant that had a wood-burning pizza oven.”

Over time, both transitioned out of the pizza business and explored other careers, but their love of the dish never went away. As a way to entertain guests in their backyard, Ken and Cassie would often make custom pizzas, and they soon realized they could make a business out of the hobby. “It became popular enough that there was a lot of people there and we spent all of our time making food versus hanging out with people,” said Ken.

Camzie’s Pizza is made only using only made from scratch and fresh ingredients. Ken and Cassie even go as far as harvesting the wood for the wood-fired pizza ovens to ensure its quality. “The nature of all of our whole pizzerias is we’re standing on the same ground with our customers and making their pizza right in front of them,” said Ken. “The goal is to have hot, fresh food made right in front of them and display it almost like cooking shows.”

Although this season is dramatically slower than their previous, the family has used the opportunity to spend time with their children and loved ones. “We’re not as busy, but we get to hang out with family and enjoy it,” said Ken. “Things will balance out into the future. We’re going to get back to normal, just whatever that new normal is.”

While Ken and Cassie continue to incorporate different styles of food into their offerings, they have a special place in their heart for pizza because of the ability to share the experience of the meal. “For our ancient ancestors, having a fire and cooking was spiritual,” said Ken. “Being the cook and feeding people, it’s a respectable job. It really comes around cooking, eating, and people bonding.”
