Returned Citizen Turned Entrepreneur and Author Inspired Others to Strengthen the Kalamazoo Community

Share

Keidrain Brewster, a returned citizen that served 13 years in prison, has built his own trucking company and authored two best-selling books since his release just eight years ago. He delivered a powerful message at an event last week in the Catalyst Center sponsored by Urban Alliance and Southwest Michigan First.

His first book, “From the Rec Yard to the Streets”, outlines lessons learned from his time in prison and how he applied those lessons upon release. His second book, “From the Streets to the Suites”, tells the story of overcoming barriers to starting his own business and reaching the level of success he desired.

Brewster now focuses on using his trucking company to reduce the recidivism rate by inspiring returning citizens that have been touched by the system to take a new career path and advocating for educational tools in the penal system.

A Facebook post by Urban Alliance on Thursday, September 15, says, “What an amazing night with Keidrain Brewster (@bossmanbrewster). At UA, we never get tired of hearing stories of transformation.”
