Share

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced $8 million in grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to support upgrades for 15 community recreation projects across the state. Among the recipients is Chikaming Township in Berrien County, part of Southwest Michigan.

Chikaming Township will receive $327,700 to develop Kohn Park, enhancing local recreation opportunities. The project aims to improve accessibility and amenities for visitors, contributing to the quality of life in the region.

DNR Director Scott Bowen emphasized the impact of these grants:
“The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a great asset that brings federal funding through the state to local projects – from splashpads and observation decks to park restroom improvements and boating access site upgrades.”

The grants fund a variety of projects statewide, including playscapes, trailheads, ice arenas, and ADA-compliant facilities.
