The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) Board of Education has decided to move into contract negotiations with Dr. Dedrick Martin to become its next superintendent. The process concluded after gathering input from the staff and public via focus groups and an online survey, holding multiple rounds of interviews, visitations to the various KRESA facilities by the candidates, and meeting with KRESA’s leadership team and local superintendents. The two finalists for the position were Matt Olson and Dr. Dedrick Martin.

Dr. Martin has been Superintendent in Caledonia since 2018. Previously, he served as director of partnership districts and state reform officer with the Michigan Department of Education for one year, superintendent of St. Johns Public Schools for five years, superintendent of Ypsilanti Public Schools for four years, executive rirector of Equity and Student Achievement for Champaign Unit 4 School District in Illinois for five years, and elementary principal and assistant principal for the Fort Bend Independent School District (Sugar Land, Texas) for five years. Dr. Martin began his career as a special education teacher in Sugar Land, Texas.
