Here’s the Scoop on the Best Ice Cream in Southwest Michigan

The warm Michigan summer weather continues through September, which means the celebration of National Dairy Month in June can continue all summer long. While a lot of dairy products including cheese, butter, and milk are great, our one true love is ice cream. Ice cream is perfect for a hot summer day—or really any day—and we’ve got the scoop on some of the best places in Southwest Michigan. We dairy you to try them all:

  1. Whether you’re craving a classic scoop or something with a twist, The Big Dipper in Schoolcraft serves up delicious ice cream any day of the week.
  2. A longtime local favorite, Schultz’s Treat Street in Kalamazoo offers an assortment of beloved Mooville ice cream flavors. Serving up sundaes like brownie deluxe and banana split, or a tasting of several at once, you’re sure to find something delicious to dig into at Schultz’s.
  3. Plainwell Ice Cream ties together its infamous homemade ice cream with an incredible sense of community.
  4. Stroll down to the South Haven Pier with a cone from Captain Nemo’s to complete your day at the beach!
  5. Vicksburg’s Apple Knockers Ice Cream Parlor scoops up authentic and homemade desserts from basic ice cream cones to The Apple Knocker Sundae.
  6. When you see the Blue Moo cow on top of Sherman’s Dairy Bar in South Haven, you know you’re in for a treat. Sherman’s is famous for their old-fashioned ice cream with a multitude of flavor options and enormous scoop sizes.
  7. You can find Lafayette Creamery’s delicious rotation of flavors in Texas Corners at Rykse’s & Co. and in Hopkins.
  8. As if ice cream cones weren’t good enough, Bella Creamery in Portage serves ice cream cakes that look amazing enough to send a cow over the moon.
  9. With over 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream, and even some of the best burgers in Gobles, Lickity Split Ice Cream and More is the perfect place to satisfy your sweet tooth and your hunger.
  10. While waiting for your prescription at Westlake Drug & Giftshop, have a seat at the old-fashioned soda fountain and enjoy a treat, featuring Sherman’s Finest ice cream. It’s the only pharmacy in the Portage-Kalamazoo area that maintains a working soda fountain.
