Focusing on diversifying decision-making and promoting equity through policy, Veronica McKissack is seeking election for Kalamazoo County Commissioner to represent District 5. In this role, Veronica’s main priorities would be to work with other elected commissioners to bring collaborative strategies maximizing County resources and accessibility to all County residents. She plans to accomplish these goals by “promoting transparency to reduce the culture of distrust within the County and bringing forth equitable policies that put County welfare over political agendas.” Veronica said, “I will promote accountability by demanding compliance with laws and regulations and impartially applying them to all departments.” Veronica also shared with us that her favorite book is “Mom & Me & Mom” by Maya Angelou. My motivation for running for the District 5 seat on the Kalamazoo County Commission is to diversify decision-making and promote equity through policy.

A County Commissioner promotes decisions that benefit public interest including budget and local policy. My top priorities will be to work with other elected Commissioners bringing collaborative strategies to maximize County resources and accessibility to all County residents.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESTRICTIONS OF THE OFFICE?
