As a firefighter/EMT, Abigail Wheeler readily admits that she “puts my community first.” Running for the office of State Representative in the 66th district, Abigail would make her top priorities bringing transparency and accountability to state government, lowering prescription drug prices, funding public education, expanding broadband access, and protecting Michigan’s greatest resource: our water. Abigail describes herself as someone “who puts people over politics” and promises to “fight for an economy that works for everyone where a person can work a 40-hour week and support a family.” Let’s meet Abigail Wheeler who you might find curled up on the couch reading a copy of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” on a rainy day.

WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR RUNNING FOR OFFICE?
As a firefighter/EMT who puts my community first, I also serve on the non-partisan Mattawan Village Council. As a first responder and local representative, I have seen the troubles that plague my community and want to work to improve the quality of life in the 66th district.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP PRIORITIES WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ELECTED OFFICE?
- Bringing transparency and accountability to state government.
- Lowering prescription drug prices.
- Funding public education.
- Expanding broadband access.
- Protecting Michigan’s greatest resource: our water.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESTRICTIONS OF THE OFFICE?
I have a proven track record of finding common ground and improving my community as a member of the non-partisan Mattawan Village Council. I put people over politics. As a first responder, I help everyone in need. I will bring that same approach to Lansing and work toward commonsense solutions.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF THE ECONOMY IF ELECTED?
I believe we need a real strategy to address the pandemic in order to rebuild the economy. Let’s grow the public health sector and lay the foundation for growth. I will fight for an economy that works for everyone where a person can work a 40-hour week and support a family.
