AZO Air Traffic Continues to Climb to New Heights

Share

The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) reports continued growth in passenger traffic for June and July 2021. In June 2021, passenger traffic at AZO increased 351 percent, and in July, traffic increased 183 percent from what was reported in last year’s comparable months. “The June and July numbers show two things. First, business traffic is returning to AZO, and second, that aircraft are essentially full (about three empty seats per aircraft on average). The slow return to business travel is helping AZO,” said Craig Williams, Airport Director.

Below are some statistics from June and July 2021 on how things at AZO are taking off:

  • AZO saw 16,813 passengers in June and July 2021, up from 4,936 in June/July 2020.
  • AZO’s 16,813 total passengers in July and July 2021 are down 16 percent compared to pre-pandemic 2019 numbers. (In June 2019, AZO was closed to airline operations for two weeks.)
  • For the year-to-date, AZO passenger traffic is down 50 percent compared to 2019.
  • Aircraft Load Factor (how full an airplane is) was at 85.4 percent for June and 86.1 percent for July, compared to 47 percent in June 2020 and 46.9 percent in July 2020.
