Share

Meet Lucas Zuleta, a senior in the Western Michigan University (WMU) Product Design program, who will be graduating this year and is searching for an employment opportunity in the community. Lucas’ strong skills in communicating by sketching and telling a story through a product could be an impressive addition to your team. Lucas is interested in working in any industry, and he says, “I enjoy the design process and have a passion for helping others, so wherever I can apply my skills and help others, I’m open to the opportunity.” Read the full feature on Lucas below to see how he could be a fit for your team.

What is the best lesson you learned from your classes, an internship, instructor, or mentor?

The best lesson I learned from my mentor is to spend less time worrying about making pretty layouts for projects and let the work speak for itself. I learned that what’s most important is to tell a good story through your process and create a beautiful solution.

What is the strongest skill you bring to an employer?

The strongest skill I bring to an employer is the ability to successfully communicate my ideas to others through sketching. Sketching is a universal way of communicating with others, and I believe being able to convey your ideas through sketching is a very important skill to have in the design industry.

What type of project or industry interests you?

I’m interested in applying my design skills to any industry. I enjoy the design process and have a passion for helping others, so wherever I can apply my skills and help others, I’m open to the opportunity.

What project in your portfolio are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of my smart wagon project from the first semester of my senior year. I believe I found a unique solution to a problem people in cities may be encountering.

What/who is one person, place, or experience that had a positive impact on you during your time at Western Michigan University or in the Kalamazoo community?

Western Michigan University’s Richmond Institute for Design and Innovation (RIDI) product design program provides its students with a great facility. Knowing that I had all the resources I needed in order to be successful and being able to come work in such a great studio whenever I needed to had a great impact on me.
