What is the best lesson you learned from your classes, an internship, an instructor, or a mentor?

Don’t cut your process short; push your design. Understand why you are ending your exploration. It is often the one step further we don’t take that would lead us to a more successful design.

What is the strongest skill you bring to an employer?

The strongest skill I can bring to any employer would be my willingness to learn and adapt. I have a variety of interested and experience that could be applied in a number of given situations to which any employer would value.

What type of project or industry interests you?

The Cannabis Industry has been my late interest. As the product evolves, so do they ways of consumption. There is very much opportunity in this growing market for graphic advertisement, packaging, photography and product design.

What project in your portfolio are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my “Nixon Retail Scanner” project. Our class was tasked with translating the brand language of an assigned brand to a price-gun scanner of the selected companies fictional retail store. Considering material, color, and form, I believe this project showcases my interest of branding in the most successful way possible.

What/who is one person, place, or experience that had a positive impact on you during your time at Western Michigan University or in the Kalamazoo community?

I had a recent connection with WMU Graphic design Alumni, John Kepenga, a freelance designer of 15+ years. Since we’ve met, we have gone through my product design and client based portfolios. The feedback and insight from a professional with such an extensive background with common interest has been very beneficial to my outlook as I approach graduation. John has been kind enough to open his network with me, putting me in contact with potential future employers and clients.
