Southwest Michigan First is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Graphic Design and Marketing Intern to join our team! This is a fantastic opportunity for an entry-level individual to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of visual communication and digital marketing. The intern will assist in designing marketing materials, editing photos, creating engaging content for our social media platforms, and supporting our event and communication efforts. This role offers a chance to develop a diverse skill set in a fast-paced and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

Graphic Design:

  • Assist in creating visual content for social media, websites, PowerPoint presentation, and marketing materials
  • Utilize design software (e.g., proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to produce visually appealing graphics.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all visual materials.

Photo Editing:

  • Edit and retouch photos for social media, websites, and marketing purposes (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop preferred).
  • Ensure photos are optimized for various digital platforms.

Social Media:

  • Assist in creating and scheduling social media content (text, images, videos) for various platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and websites).
  • Monitor social media trends and engage with followers.
  • Analyze social media performance and provide insights.

Content Creation:

  • Assist in developing engaging written content for social media posts, blog posts, and website updates.
  • Help create and edit short videos for social media.
  • Brainstorm and contribute to content creation ideas.

Eventbrite/Communications:

  • Assist in creating and managing event listings on Eventbrite.
  • Support communication efforts related to events and other organizational activities.
  • Assist in drafting email communications and content for FIRST & 42, Southwest Michigan First’s weekly digital newsletter.
  • Help to maintain contact lists.

General Support:

  • Assist with general administrative tasks as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
  • Maintain organized digital files.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant program (e.g., Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media) or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design principles and photo editing.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop) is required.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • A strong interest in learning and developing new skills.
