The role directs the financial accounting and reporting for University Advancement and the Western Michigan University Foundation.

Major Duties:

• Maintains and monitors all department and WMU Foundation funds.
• Prepares financial statements, researches and resolves deficits, and ensures that transactions are reported accurately and timely.
• Analyzes monthly financial statements, corrects discrepancies, and reports large fluctuations to leadership.
• Manages and prepares various financial reports for internal and external constituents. Assists leadership in the preparation of the WMU Foundation’s annual audited financial report.
• Serves as the main point of contact for the WMU Foundation’s external auditors.
• Directs departmental strategic and budget planning processes. Sets and enforces policies and procedures for the department and the WMU Foundation to ensure budget integrity.
• Develops financial reports, budget analyses, and forecasts for the department and the WMU Foundation to support decision-making.
• Ensures regulatory compliance with charitable foundation policies and reporting standards. Monitors and understands federal regulations as they pertain to institutionally related foundations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
• Five years of relevant experience.
• Experience with financial reports and analysis.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), accounting standards.
• Strong Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Experience with budgeting, institutional, and fund management.
• Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
