The medical social worker at WMCC is responsible for providing support services in the realm of psychosocial services/social work to patients and their caregivers. Each day, this employee must STRIVE to make a difference for your co-workers and the patients.
- Education: Master’s degree in social work or healthcare fields such as counseling, psychology, or mental health from an accredited institution required (or equivalent such as LLP), emphasis in Interpersonal Practice preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills: Current State of Michigan LMSW license required. Minimum 2 years experience in medical social work in a healthcare setting required, oncology or hospice/palliative care experience strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and overall understanding of health care systems, the psychosocial impact of life-threatening disease preferred, willingness to become an expert is required. Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources. Ability to cope with the high-intensity emotional strain of working with severe illness of patients, conducting self in a professional manner; maintain professional boundaries as outlined in the NASW Code of Ethics. Must have or be able to obtain BLS certification.
