Share

To help our community members make informed choices in the upcoming election, we asked candidates running for important local, state, and national seats to participate in our Forum to help you get to know them better. Today, meet Tom Graham.

Longtime resident and businessperson, Tom Graham is running for the position as State Representative in the 61st district. “I love my community. My family has lived on the same 40 acres for over 85 years. I was born, raised, went to school, created businesses, and had a 37-year career in Michigan,” said Tom. “I have a commitment to Michigan and want to use my experience to represent the residents.” In this role, Tom’s top priorities would include economic growth through good infrastructure; low property, sales, and income taxes; education to develop the skills of talented young people; and technology to empower citizens to hold their government accountable. Along with Tom’s insights on politics, he also shared with us his favorite movie which is “The Princess Bride” and his go-to campaign song of “Happier” by Marshmello. Meet Tom Graham.

WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR RUNNING FOR OFFICE?
I love my community. My family has lived on the same 40 acres for over 85 years. I was born, raised, went to school, created businesses, and had a 37-year career in Michigan. I have a commitment to Michigan and want to use my experience to represent the residents.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP PRIORITIES WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ELECTED OFFICE?

  • Economic growth through good infrastructure
  • Lower property, sales, and income taxes
  • Education to develop the skills of our talented young people
  • Technology to empower citizens to keep their government accountable

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESTRICTION OF THE OFFICE?

  • Allocate more school budget dollars to expand Career and Technical Education.
  • Propose increased road usage fees to support our roads and bridges.
  • We should all pay for what we use.

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF THE ECONOMY IF ELECTED?

The government can properly support growth through education, low taxes, and good infrastructure.  I plan to support Career and Technical Education, education vouchers to incentivize efficiency and quality of education,  infrastructure improvement projects paid for by usage fees, and lowering or eliminating taxes on job creators.
